Island Street in Salcombe is home to many artisan makers who craft a product lovingly from scratch. From artists to distillers, fashion brands to food producers, visitors can see products being made in the heart of the South Hams. Salcombe Dairy recently opened a brand new chocolate factory and store at Hannaford’s Landing, just a few steps along Island Street from our ice cream factory. Stepping into the shop, the aroma of cocoa nibs being ground is intense - seeing the machines in action is mesmerising, and when the truffle machine is in action maybe one of our chocolatiers will pop one down the truffle run for a taster!

There is something comforting about buying a gift which is made in front of your eyes, a reassurance that comes from watching pure ingredients being made into a delicious product by people who are passionate about quality and provenance. Our staff are happy to explain to visitors what’s happening in the bean-to-bar chocolate production process that day, be it grinding and conching, tempering and moulding, filling, wrapping or packing of the chocolate.
